About Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum Disorder, or Autism, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, intellectual skills, behavior, and speech and verbal communication. However, individuals may have unique strengths and difficulties. The Center of Disease Prevention estimated that Autism affects about 1 in 68 children in the United States. There are also different types of autism including Autistic Disorder, Asperger Syndrome, and Pervasive Development Disorder. Autistic Disorder is the most common type of disorder that is associated with the basic symptoms common in all types of Autism. People with Asperger Syndrome usually have a milder type of Autism that usually does not result in intellectual problems. Lastly, Pervasive Development Disorder is the less severe than both types of Autism and generally only results in social and communication problems.
